Dick Hibma with his family

Dick Hibma is a conservationist with a long-time interest in environmental stewardship. This approach to life led him to become a candidate for the Green Party because of its unwavering commitment to environmental sustainability.

Dick became involved in municipal politics in Owen Sound in 1994 and served for three terms on Council, retiring in 2003 to re-focus on his family. Throughout his time in municipal politics Dick served as a director on the Grey Sauble Conservation Authority, and since early 1998 he has served as the Chair. Dick has also been active in the provincial association, Conservation Ontario, where he served for five years as vice-chair prior to his election as Chair in 2006. He continues in his third year as Chairman.

In 2007, the federal government appointed Dick to the Public Interest Advisory Group in support of the International Joint Commission’s Upper Great Lakes Study.

Dick is a lifelong resident of Bruce-Grey and now lives in Owen Sound with his wife SandraLee. He has two children, Andrew and Kristen.

Dick works at Bruce Power where he has primarily been involved in planning, scheduling, and coordinating maintenance activities.
